Literary Romance

They said I needed you.

Doubted how far I would get without you
It was unbelievable.
As if I haven’t been through worse.
I could endure this alone
Or so I told myself.
But then I saw you there
And you beckoned to me
Hungrily, I devoured every word you wanted to share
Clinging to the tip up your concepts
My fuchsia nails dug into your spine;
You were exponential power in my palms.
We spent hours together.
Committing every moment to memory
Cataloging history
But deep down, I knew
You weren’t mine to have
And I didn’t want to share
So regretfully, I left you there
The ‘I told you so’s already on their lips
Struggling, vulnerable, alone
The separation proved more than I could bare
I admit I was wrong
I do need you
Couldn’t possibly succeed without you
So I bought a textbook of my own
to rekindle the love affair.
