Deadly Technology
Howth is only a 20 minute ride outside the city of Dublin, but it looks ages away. It is a small fishing town, but with a beautiful mountain right along the edge of the water. I drove through it on one of my first days in Dublin, and knew I would be back soon.
I was a little nervous about going on a hike and exploring alone, so I made sure to charge my phone, pack my iPod, and make myself a nice little lunch.
I decided to FaceTime my mom for some company, but after a short conversation, my phone abruptly died on me. I went to grab my iPod for some musical ‘company’, but of course I left it playing for the train ride and that had also died.
So now it was just me, my dead phone and iPod, a peanut butter sandwich, and the wilderness.
Although I was frustrated with my unreliable iPhone and iPod, it almost seemed like they both died on me for a reason (or at least we’ll go with that for now). I had the most peaceful day, hiking the 2 hour trail through the mountains, overlooking onto the cliffs and the ocean. I sat and ate lunch in total silence, with no distractions. I had a great time, hanging out with just me, myself and I.
I have a feeling it won’t be the last time my phone and iPod leave me abandoned in the wilderness, but I am kind of looking forward to some ‘alone’ time again. #deadlytechnology
