A small town country girl. A big city girl. A super cool, super trendy Brooklyn boy.

Three completely different people, with completely different backgrounds and lifestyles. The one thing they have in common? They are all from New York! (but all different parts- New York is bigger than Ireland)

These people are my amazing roommates- Chaz and Faith. If you know me at all, then you know l I am the small town farm girl from upstate NY. Faith is a big city girl, as she is from the city of Albany, NY and spends a lot of her time in NYC. Chaz is the super cool and trendy Brooklyn boy. When I was accepted into the Victory Scholar Program, I was told that I would be living and working with two other Victory Scholars in Letterkenny, Ireland. I had never even heard of Letterkenny, nor did I know either of my roommates whom I would be living with for a year. I honestly had no idea what would be in store for me when I arrived in Ireland.

Now, we are in 2017-so before I left, I had received the names of my roommates and instantly Facebook stalked them. (sorry guys!) We all became Facebook friends, and Faith and I even chatted a little bit about what we were packing, etc. The world with live in with social media everywhere is so interesting because you see pictures of these people and the things they post- and you start to feel like you almost know them. You start to piece together their life story and what they might be like. After my Facebook stalking, I already had a great feeling about these two.

When I first met Chaz and Faith, I instantly thought they were both going to be a ton of fun. They both had really outgoing personalities, and were easy to talk to. I was so excited to start the year with them. Now that we are two months into the program, I can easily say OH MY GOSH I LOVE MY ROOMIES! We are the mostly unlikely group of people and each of us couldn’t be more different, but we get along so well. We have gotten to share our different backgrounds, experiences, and bond over our love for the game of basketball.

While I could write a whole separate blog about why I love each of them, I will just briefly share why I love them. Faith is one of the most genuine and down to earth people I know who appreciates life’s little blessings. Almost every single day, Faith reminds me how lucky we are to be living in Ireland for a year. Chaz is an absolute character and not a day goes by that he doesn’t make Faith and I laugh. Also, he is a phenomenal cook and has been teaching me how to properly season my chicken- and for that I am forever thankful!

Reflecting on my two months in Ireland so far, I can easily say that the people I live with, work with, and the community I live in have made this experience incredible. As I think back on all the memories Chaz, Faith, and I have made over the past two months- all I do is smile. I smile because I know I get to spend the next 7 months making more memoires with these wonderful people. I smile because at the end of the day, life is all about the memories you make and the people you make them with. I smile because I came into this program not knowing anyone, and now I will be leaving with two lifelong friends. And I know for a fact I will be planning both of their weddings!!

And just like that- the country girl, the city girl, and the Brooklyn boy have become the “three best friends that anyone could have…”
