Sport Changes Life is thrilled to announce that our ambassador, Gareth Brown, is embarking on his most demanding challenge yet in 2025—running 7 ultra marathons in 7 days, covering an incredible 350km with set routes around Belfast, all in support of the foundation. This incredible feat will take place from 26th May to 1st June, 2025, pushing Gareth to his absolute limits as he once again raises funds to help transform lives through sport led intervention.
Sport, and running in particular, has always been Gareth’s passion. He understands firsthand the benefits it brings, not just physically, but mentally. Running is his release, his way of staying focused and resilient, and now, he’s using that passion once more to make a difference in the lives of our local communities.
Gareth is no stranger to taking on extreme endurance challenges for the foundation. His journey began in 2021 with ‘Stride the Stadia’, where he and close friend Chris Kirk walked over 200 miles between every Irish League Premiership football ground in just five days, raising over £10,000.
Last year, he pushed himself even further, running an ultra marathon around the Pennine Barrier in England. Battling the weather conditions on the day, he showed incredible perseverance and completed the challenge in style, once again proving his commitment to using sport as a force for good.
Now, Gareth is taking things to another level. Running one ultra marathon is a challenge, but completing seven in seven days will be an extreme test of endurance, strength, and determination. He hopes to inspire others to connect with fitness and physical activity, but also by raising money to support Sport Changes Life’s mission of helping young people and older adults through sport. He will be running each ultra marathon with his close friend John Mulholland, who is also raising money for his chosen charities – NI Children’s Hospice, PIPS, Jack and Jill Foundation & NI Kidney Patients Association.
Alan Teggart, CEO of Sport Changes Life, praised Gareth:
“Gareth Brown has already proven his incredible support to the foundation, but this challenge is again raising the bar. Running 350km in just seven days is a test of both physical and mental strength that few would even attempt. His love of running and a belief in the power of sport aligns perfectly with our mission at Sport Changes Life. We are extremely grateful for his continued support and can’t wait to see him take on this monumental challenge.”
Speaking about his upcoming challenge, Gareth shared:
“I just love getting outdoors and running. Taking on this challenge is going to push me beyond my limits, but I know why I’m doing it. Sport Changes Life has helped so many people in my local area, and I want to do my part to support that work across Northern Ireland. Seven ultra marathons in seven days will be the toughest thing I’ve ever done, but knowing I’m helping support others makes every step worthwhile.”
Gareth’s journey is one that will inspire many, and we appreciate any support throughout his journey. Whether its through donations, sharing his story, or sending messages of encouragement, every bit of support makes a difference.
Stay tuned for updates as we follow Gareth’s training, progress, and his incredible challenge come 26th May!
