The Sport Changes Life Foundation (SCLF) is thrilled to announce the Victory Scholar Program Class of 2021/22.
Entering its fourteenth year, the prestigious program has awarded 174 American student – athletes a Victory Scholarship; a unique overseas experience to grow and develop while using sport as a tool for impact and change.
This year SCLF is awarding 10 deserving student – athletes from 10 US colleges the opportunity to become a Victory Scholar based across 7 Irish higher education institutions (Dublin City University, IT Carlow, Limerick IT, Waterford IT, Letterkenny IT, NUI Galway & Munster Technological University). In addition to studying and playing basketball, Victory Scholars will act as role models and leaders in the local community working with disadvantaged young people aiming to elevate aspirations and promote physically active lives.
Looking ahead to the 2021/22 year is Sport Changes Life Foundation’s co-founder and C.E.O, Gareth Maguire:
“We are delighted to reignite our program this year as we transition out of COVID times by welcoming a unique group to Ireland. We pride ourselves on attracting the right balance of athlete, student and role model and we are excited about the potential of this year’s class in providing meaningful impact.
Our Foundation dedicates itself to raising the aspirations of young people. The pandemic has reinforced that role models are an essential rather than a luxury. Sport has been a passport to great experiences for our Scholars. Now, this group recognises more than ever that they must use this passport to pay forward to the next generation. A truly warming concept from a class of young leaders who were eager to get to work.
As the world has opened it shutters the provision of services and programs is needed now more than ever. I am so proud that our Victory Scholar class will be a driving force behind reigniting community engagement and carrying our Foundation’s message throughout the year.”
