Would you like the opportunity to gain new skills to help you move into employment? If the answer is yes then EHOOPS could be for you.
EHOOPS is a sport based employment programme supporting you to experience new sports and develop new skills to help you find employment. We use sport and inspirational workshops, which are held over a 6 month period, to help you develop workplace skills.
You will experience sport at the world class facilities at, our founding partner, Ulster University (Jordanstown Campus) as well as gaining access to specialist workshops for job search and developing employability skills.
With a number of Sport Changes Life EHOOPS programmes just about to begin, next week, we thought why not hear from some of our past EHOOPERS and see where they are now.
Conor Floyd took part in our EHOOPS programme in West Belfast and here is what he had to say:
Before EHOOPS started, I lacked confidence in going for jobs simply because I wasn’t mature enough at the time. During the EHOOPS scheme, we got to meet lots of amazing people from different backgrounds, religion and even from different continents!
The Victory Scholars that was on our team really helped you get out of the ‘boyish’ behaviour and got you ready to start to mature up and plan your future, a future that was only benefitting yourself . The sport mentors helped me with my CV, which I got to leave around in places coming up to Christmas. I got a call from JD Sports in November 2014 and I started working in there. I’ve been working in JD ever since and I love it. Without EHOOPS I wouldn’t have the confidence to speak to different people and they helped me get out of my comfort zone to do better for myself!
Marcus Woods took part in our EHOOPS Programme in North Belfast:
I enjoyed EHOOPS as we got a chance to meet new people and learn new thing while also engaging in sporting activities and having fun I also enjoyed getting out of my own area and working with the local coummunity police officers and creating new relationships.
Thanks to EHOOPS I am now working in the youth sector. I work in a youth club that works with young people from 10-18. I really enjoy it as I have also been doing some work with the homeless. It suits me as I really enjoy helping other people and helping them strive to reach their full potential.
One thing EHOOPS taught me was to be accepting to different people and different surroundings . All the staff from Marc, Joanne, Richard and all the Victory Scholars they made my expierence a whole lot better by just being there for us.
My quote of life is now a quote that means alot to me and the people of EHOOOPS and alot of other programmes I’ve engaged in have taught me this;
“Love what you do and you’ll never work a day in your life”
Currently our EHOOPS programmes are in operation in four areas, North Belfast – New Lodge and Duncairn Area and South Belfast Belvoir and Milltown (Funded by Belfast City Council) as well as Carrickfergus and Greenisland.
