Hi everyone! My name is Kadeem Smithen, and I am originally from Ajax, Ontario, Canada which is a town 30 minutes east of the wonderful city of Toronto (and the 2018-19 NBA champions). Over the past 5 years I have spent my life playing Division 1 college basketball. I started my long journey at the University of Richmond in Richmond, Virginia and finished my D1 journey at Siena College in Albany, NY. I am grateful that I had the opportunity to be apart of both programs and to be apart of those great teams who can now call family. With my one year at Richmond we made it to the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) and with Siena I helped play a pivotal role in making it to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference finals in the 2016-17 season. In my 2017-18 season with Siena, I received the award for the Defensive Player of the Year. Finally, in my last year at Siena College I played a key role in the turn around of the Men’s Basketball program and was the consistent spark plug and 6th man off the bench for the Saints who were able to turn around an 8 win season from the year before into a Semi finals birth vs Iona in the 2018-19 MAAC tournament.
I am thankful to be apart of the Sports Changes life community and to be continuing my education in pursuing a masters in Sports and Exercise Psychology at Ulster University. Not only will this be a great opportunity to continue my education, my playing career and to be apart of another great family; but it will also be an opportunity to help out more communities and youth who may need it. I have heard a plethora of good things about the SCL family and community and look forward to starting another chapter in my life and impacting others with not only my basketball skills but with my ability to have a knack for helping others. This will be a great journey and I cannot wait to attack it head on.
