Hi Everybody! My name is Marritta Gillcrease—most people call me Rita—and I am from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I recently graduated from Rider University with a dual BSc in Business Administration and International Business and a minor in French. Ooh la-la. Where do I start with all that basketball has done for me? It started as an escape and a sanctuary and it has grown to be so much more. It has taught me about focus, commitment and fitness and has given me an extended family, friends and fun.
It is an honour to have been selected as a Victory Scholar, and be given the chance to share my love for the game by working with children in Ireland, connecting with them on and off of the court. I will be attending NUI Galway, studying for my Master of Laws in International Human Rights. I am so excited to see the beauty of Ireland on this journey with my fellow Victory Scholars. If I can convince just one kid how much their favourite sport can change their life then my mission will be complete.
